On the way to pick up the One Day as a Lion EP, I stumbled upon a, what I thought to be new release, from a favorite band of mine titled Oblivion with Bells, from Underworld. I apparently missed this one. So not only did I get to pickup the long awaited release from the former Rage front-man, about also a new release from one of my all time favorite bands. What a day. I’d suggest living backwards to anyone. Just bury your face in a whole lot of crap for about a year, ignore everything thats going on around you, and when you wake up you’ll have so much fun playing catch up with everyone else it will feel like being a newborn baby.
Of course One Day as a Lion is good. Even containing only 5 songs, its still worth every penny of the $8 bucks it costs to legally obtain it. Its been well worth the wait. Oblivion with Bells from Underworld on the other hand, is a little different. There’s been a noticeable difference in the band’s direction since Darren Emerson left in 2000. However, the last few releases after Emerson’s departure, seem to align more with Underworld’s visual aesthetics and exploration of varying multi-medias, and has been every bit of enjoyable as their previous releases.
Underworld has worked for many years, with tomato, a very well established design collective from the UK. So I wasn’t surprised when, while updating myself via their on-line portal, I stumbled upon this: Beautiful Burnout: ArtJam. It is a multi-media expedition featured at the Jacobson Howard Gallery in New York City. Pretty interesting stuff. All of the above links contain some really great work thats worth the time to check out.
