I had the pleasure of going to see I Love You, Man last night in Hermitage, PA. On Mondays at the Shenango Valley Cinemas tickets are only five dollars and you get a free small popcorn! That is the best deal around since going to the movies cost almost 10 dollars normally and the cost of pretzel bites is roughly the same as a filet mignon from Outback Steakhouse. If you know of any good deals around you for seeing flicks post it in the comments here, I’m sure people would appreciate it.
I Love You, Man is a comedy about Peter Klaven (Paul Rudd) a real estate agent who is about to get married to Zooey Rice (Rashida Jones) but doesn’t really have any male friends to be groomsmen, and more importantly his best man. The comedy unravels as people try to set Peter up on “man dates” in order to make some friends. Peter meets Sydney Fife (Jason Segel) at an open house and that’s when the magic happens.
The film has a really great supporting cast including Jaime Pressly, Jane Curtin, Andy Samberg, J.K. Simmons, Jon Favreau, Aziz Ansari, Lou Ferrigno, Jay Chandrasekhar, and the band Rush. It was directed by John Hamburg, the director of Along Came Polly.
I really enjoyed the film, Paul Rudd was amazing as the friendless Peter Klaven. His awkwardness facing the situations of dinner dates, poker games, and even calling Sydney back for a second hang out were all a riot to watch. It seemed ultimately convincing, and moments in the film seem all to real to moments in my life.
Jason Segel was great as Sydney Fife, the amazingly confident bachelor who seeks refuge in the “man-cave”. Segel and Rudd had some great on screen chemistry and watching Segel react to Rudd’s awkwardness is priceless.
The film was loaded with laughs and it was actually a pretty heartwarming story (my heart was warm like a baked potato after I watched it). The humor in the film relied mostly on Segel and Rudd’s on screen relationship. It did have it’s share of dirty jokes, but it didn’t rely on gross humor in order to get a laugh.
I would highly recommend the film. Very funny.
