I tend to write about the films that I hold near and dear to my heart. Maybe this wouldn’t happen so much if they didn’t make sequels or remakes to the films that were last released 20+ years ago. In the case of “Ghostbusters”, I’ll cut them more slack than “The Lost Boys” because every single year “Ghostbusters 3” seemed to be brought up and every single year only one key person said no. Let’s face it…you can’t make a “Ghostbusters” film without Bill Murray. Every other main actor wanted to make it. Not having the smart alleck of the group in the film would essentially eliminate most of the humor.
I remember watching an interview with Dan Akroyd, Harold Ramis and Ernie Hudson two years ago when the work began on Ghostbusters: The Video Game. They said that Bill Murray didn’t want to do a film because he thought that they were all too old to pull it off. The videogame was put on hold when its developer pulled out and it caused an uproar in the gaming community. Sony took note of the “Ghostbuster” nostalgia that they apparently didn’t know existed and are soon releasing another dvd set and finally releasing it in Blu-ray.
That’s where the new idea comes in…Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky, writers and producers for the show “The Office” and writers of the movie “Year One” are being consulted by Egon himself, Harold Ramis on a sequel to “Ghostbusters 3” that Bill Murray approves of. Apparently, there are going to be young Ghostbusters in this film and the original Ghostbusters are going to be mentoring them. This was the rumored plot months ago, but now it is official. Seth Rogen and the Judd Apatow regulars like Jonah Hill and Paul Rudd are rumored to be in it, but when Seth Rogen heard about the film his reaction was “What? That’d have to be one great fucking script for anyone to touch that.” When you’re right…you’re right. Hopefully they treat it with the respect it deserves. His reaction is warranted, but due to the fact that Apatow is now the producer, expect a Rogen appearance. For more on “Ghostbusters” click here.
It’s notable to add that the game features the main actors from the movies except for Sigourney Weaver and Rick Moranis. Rick Moranis has retired from acting in live action films and really only does voiceacting now (so I don’t know why he’s not in the game). I don’t know if he’d suit up again as Louis. It’d be nice to have the entire group back. They have replaced Sigourney Weaver’s character with a new character portrayed by Alyssa Milano.
