Over on YouTube, there is a great collection of videos that display Hitler absolutely losing it with hilarious subtitles ranging from his feelings towards getting banned on Xbox Live, banned on Runescape, and of course World of WarCraft. At first, these videos seemed like a really well acted joke, and then I did some research and discovered that the footage used for these spoofs was actually taken from a was a serious business German dramedy about the last days of Adolph Hitler, and his subsequent permabanning from life.
Downfall is a German language film about the final days of the Third Reich and Adolph Hitler. Luckily, most of the YouTube-related content is scattered throughout the entire movie and the rest is surprisingly watchable. Most of the screaming and arm-flailing is done during some pretty intense scenes where Hitler’s generals are attempting to explain in the nicest way possible that he’s lost his mind. It is certainly an engrossing story, well acted, and somehow suspenseful. There’s also a particularly awkward scene during which Hitler and what’s left of the Nazi party sit down to what appears to be a little Chef Boyardee Raviolis, that is certainly worth watching. I wonder why this hasn’t been dubbed over with some awesome subtitles about Twilight or something.
Downfall also proved to be an eye-opening learning experience. For instance, Hitler was a vegetarian and didn’t smoke. Hmm, something to think about PETA. Just saying.
