On March 28th at 4:30 AM my cell phone set off some good vibrations and awoke me from my slumber (around two hours after I went to bed). I had it set because a friend and I were heading out for an adventure, and an adventure it was. Our destination: Indianapolis, Indiana. The trip took us about five and a half hours, and was a very smooth process. We arrived at the Mariott Hotel in Indianapolis at around 11am, just as doors were opening for the Horror Hound Weekend.
If you aren’t familiar with the horror genre, Horror Hound is a magazine that is put out bi-monthly and contains information on horror movies past and present and other horror related content. They have several conventions a year, in which there are movie screenings, celebrity guest signings, vendors, and more.
This was my first Horror Hound experience. I had previously been to Cinema Wasteland, Horrorfind Weekend, and ZombieFest. Horror Hound was great and a lot of fun, my only complaint was that the location was too small for the event. The celebrity guests were set up pretty much around the entire perimeter of the room and the vendor aisles were really tight. The back of the room was dedicated to the HMA maskfest, which also was really cool. They had a lot of incredible masks and busts on display and for sale.
Celebrity Guests
Horror Hound did a great job at lining up some great guests for this convention. I always complain that I don’t really collect anything so I decided that I am going to make a scrapbook (of sorts) with autographs and photos of the celebrities and myself. That way I am not piling up masses of junk, and it holds a little more personal value.
Adrienne Barbeau: I really didn’t talk much to Adrienne. Just got the picture.
Billy Wirth: Wirth was also a vampire in The Lost Boys and we conversed on how we are both a little scared to watch The Lost Boys 2. Billy also wins hands down on the best photo of the day. It looks like I took a professional headshot.
Chance Michael Corbitt: Chance was the young child vampire in The Lost Boys. We talked briefly about what it was like to be in the film as a child. He informed me that was 9 and turned 10 years old while on set. He said that the crew got him a huge cake, larger than the table he was sitting at.
Corey Haim: If you don’t know who Corey Haim is, that’s ok, because he probably doesn’t know who you are either. Haim starred in Lucas, The Lost Boys, Silver Bullet, Dream a Little Dream, License to Drive, Prayer of the Rollerboys, and many many more. He was one of my favorites when I was younger, because in his movies he was always the epitome of cool guys. I was looking forward to meeting him because I was always a fan. I was a little nervous that he was going to be a jerk, but he wasn’t at all.
Derek Mears: If you ever want to meet a great guy, it’s definitely Derek Mears. The guy was probably the most pleasant person I have ever met. Sometimes the celebrities just sign what you want them to sign, take your money, and move on (it’s a business and they treat it that way), but Derek was actually interested in talking to you. I feel it made a lot of fans very happy campers. Mears starred in The Hills Have Eyes 2 and played Jason in the Friday The Thirteenth remake.
Marc Macaulay: You know this guy, he’s pretty much a villain in everything he’s ever done. I bought a “Punisher” prop 100 dollar bill off of him that was used in the film. He signed a notecard for me and held it up in the photo, I laughed and said “So there’s no confusion of who you are.”
John Kassir: You may not know the face, but I guarantee you know the voice. Kassir was the voice actor behind everyone’s favorite story teller, the Cryptkeeper, from “Tales from the Crypt”. A friend asked me to get a poster signed by Kassir, and I was happy to. John was also real friendly and was impressed with the poster (season one of Tales from the Crypt). When he asked who to make out the poster to I told him that it was for a friend so he signed it over to its’ owner. Then he said to me “Why don’t you give him a call” so I called him up and my friend got to have a phone conversation with the Cryptkeeper. Very cool.
John Saxon: Saxon played Nancy’s father in Nightmare on Elm Street. He’s been in tons of other movies too. We talked about Youngstown and how bad it is. He knew about it. Everyone does. I asked a random girl to take a photo of me with Saxon, and since my camera is a digital
SLR people are ultimately confused at how to use it. Needless to say, my photo with John didn’t turn out so well.
C.J. Graham and Warrington Gillette: Both of these gentlemen played Jason in Friday the 13th films. Graham in part 6 and Gillette in part 2. These two were having fun picking on eachother which was quite entertaining. I had previously met C.J.Graham in Pittsburgh and asked him if he could hold up the Jason mask for the photo, when I took the photo for some reason I wasn’t even paying attention and the mask was barely in it. I think he thought I was an idiot. He liked the picture this time though, so I redeemed mysef.
Jason Mewes: Mewes was one of the guests I was really looking forward to meeting, but when I did he wasn’t really what I was expecting. I figured he would be real down to earth and chatty, but he was pretty quiet for the most part. He did sign a birthday card that I had bought for someone which was really cool. He is Jay of “Jay and Silent Bob” fame, if you didn’t know.

Tom Savini: I have always been a huge fan of Savini’s work. He is a special FX man, and did work on tons of my favorite movies. There was a movie called “Tom Savini’s Scream Greats” which was a film about how he did all the special FX in movies like Dawn of the Dead. When I was a kid I rented it numerous times from my local video store because I loved it so much. I told him about it, and he wasn’t impressed. I don’t think Tom Savini liked me.
Bill Mosely: Mosely is a really cool guy. He’s always willing to talk and take a photo. We talked about Repo! The Genetic Opera and how different it was from his usual.
HMA Maskfest
The masks and busts were incredible and a lot of fun to check out. Unfortunately I did not keep track of who made all the different masks that took photos of, but I did try to grab all the business cards I could. I posted all the links from the cards below the following images.

The Afterparty
The after party was held at the Mariott, and we got to see some bands and a freakshow. I cannot think of the freakshow’s name right now, but I will research it and post it later with some more images from it. We were also treated to cake, a veggie tray and White Castle hamburgers. Almost all of the guest celebrities were in attendance to watch the bands and mingle with the fans. The first band that played was
FirstJason, led by Ari Lehman who played Jason in the original Friday the Thirteenth.
After the punk rock antics of FirstJason we were treated to an acoustic performance by G Tom Mack of his hit “Cry Little Sister” from the Lost Boys soundtrack. It was pretty damn cool if I must say so myself.
A few last things…
Rick of the Dead from Slasher Club alerted me to the fact that there is a billboard in Indiana for Raper RV’s which I thought was really funny. I was expecting the signs and looking forward to it the entire trip, and when it finally appeared I realized that Tom Raper has the advertising in Indiana locked down. There were at least a dozen signs for Raper RV’s in a row. Check it out.

Indiana bars do not close up until 3 AM. You are welcome to keep the party going, unlike Ohio’s 2AM bars.
There is a Hooters restaurant posted right next to the Castleton Best Western, visit it, we did twice in one day. You know you like Hooters.

It was a Lost Boys reunion. Brooke McCarter was there also but I didn’t get a picture of him. Some people I didn’t get photos of were Doug Bradley (Pinhead), Andrew Bryniarski (Leatherface in the TCM remake), Luke Goss (Blade 2, Hellboy 2), Howard Sherman (Bub from Day of the Dead), Amy Steel (Friday the 13th 2) and Dan Roebuck (Devil’s Rejects).

That looks like it was amazing. I wanna go…I’m glad you had fun and I’m so jealous of whoever got the birthday card. Tom Savini’s an fx god. That’s awesome that they had so many random Lost Boys characters in one place. I wonder if they’ll do an original “Lost Boys” panel with the actors of the original anywhere around here when the third is released? Jason Mewes’ Joker shirt is great. Those masks are amazing too.
