I understand that 28 Weeks Later
was released quite some time ago, but if you are like me and didn’t really think that 28 Days Later was all that great, you may have simply tossed out the idea of checking out 28 Weeks Later. If that’s the case, throw away your notions and pick it up. This one is worth a watch.
The movie takes place six months after the first installment and the rage virus no longer exists because the infected died of starvation. The United States Military is sent to help re-build the British Isles and are slowly accepting citizens back to re-inhabit and repopulate. The virus was supposedly gone, but you wouldn’t have a sequel if there was no chance for it to come back…
28 Weeks Later is an exception to most zombie films. A lot of people don’t care for fast and intelligent zombies because they are dead and don’t have the brain capacity to do it, but in 28 Weeks Later, they aren’t your average zombie. They are humans infected with the Rage Virus, which instantly hits when a victim is bitten or comes in contact with any bodily fluids of the infected. The speed of the infected is very intense and in the early moments of the film, hordes of infected are chasing a man through the meadows and makes for an amazing scene.
A lot of the film is very intense. The action scenes are filmed with a shaky camera which almost makes it feel as if it were recorded by someone who was actually there witnessing the action. There are several scares that make you think you are going to jump out of your skin.
Another thing that sets the mood to this movie is the amazing score by John Murphy. The main theme to 28 Weeks Later called “In the House, in a Heartbeat” and is perfect. The entire score to the film has a blend of synthesizers and heavily distorted guitars which makes for really exciting scenes.
The special effects are very good, and the gunshots in specific, are really great. When people are getting shot in the film, it’s like a mini explosion. Blood sprays all over the place and you can almost see chunks of flesh flying through the air. When victims get the disease, the transformation process is believable and seems as if it is a very painful procedure.
28 Weeks Later was a horror film that never really had me thinking “Why is he doing that?”, it has a very serious feel to it, and for the most part everything makes a lot of sense. If you are a horror fan and have not had the chance to see this film yet, I highly recommend it. I enjoyed it a lot more than the first installment.

I liked it, but not as much as the first. I’m eagerly awaiting the next in the series and typically I hate fast zombies. As you said though…they aren’t zombies.
