I’ve been suppressing my excitement over the new Neon Genesis Evangelion movies for well over a year now. The first was released in Japan quite some time ago, with news about it coming stateside only popping up recently. But today’s news about an Evangelion iPhone app popped my cork.
A concern I’ve had for quite sometime, and a concern I’m sure I at least share with President Obama, is the lack of awesome applications for the Blackberry. As an avid adventurer and street fighter, I am slightly disturbed by the idea of carrying around a wafer thin piece of $500 electronic equipment in my pocket that I have to slap and tickle to get to work properly. Thus, no iPhone for me. But, come on Blackberry give me and Obama something to look forward to, geez. The Evangelion clock is certainly making me think of jumping ship. And that’s quite a feat since I haven’t been too swayed by the iPhone’s various fart machines, light sabers, and other ridiculous Apple gadgets. But, an Evangelion clock that looks like the computer system inside of an EVA? Where do I sign my name in blood, Apple-beast?
Aside from looking like the inside of my dreams, this iPhone app also gives users a collection of Evangelion items they can lay over their photos as demonstrated by this guy here. According to the title of that same blog, the “Evangelion iPhone Clock App Is Neat if You Like Evangelion”. Oh, thanks. I was wondering about whether or not I would like it, seeing as I like Evangelion. Super.
The big news however is that, according to Japanator and ANN, Evangelion 1.0: You Are (Not) Alone, will finally be released in the states by FUNimation. Also, the lucky Japanese will be getting a 1.11 version of the film along with a Blu-Ray release on May 27th. And 2.0 is slated for a June 27th release. Aside from re-envisioning the television series, the creators are obviously looking to follow in the steps of the original and make the titles incredibly confusing. Which is,… exciting (?).
