On Sunday October 5th, I drove down to Strongsville, Ohio in order to check out the Cinema Wasteland Movie and Memorabilia Expo. I have been to several of Cinema Wasteland’s past events, and have always had a good time. This time was no exception, I think it was actually better than ever.
The convention took place all weekend, but I only made it on Sunday. Like most conventions, Cinema Wasteland has movie screenings, celebrity seminars, live TV tapings, tons of merchandise dealers, and of course celebrity guest signings.
The show ends at 5pm on Sunday, and the celebrity guests pack up early to head out due to their long weekend. I didn’t make it there until about 3pm, so I’d like to say how much I appreciate the fact that the celebrities made time to talk to me and even donate some things here and there for our Halloween Contest.

Michael Berryman was impressed with my Monster Squad T-shirt, and signed a copy of The Hills Have Eyes for me.
Lloyd Kaufman and Troma were great. I bought a special 2 disc edition of the Toxic Avenger for myself, and he signed that for me. Once I told him about our contest, he gave me a copy of the Offensive Behaviour DVD and some stickers. He also signed a 8.5×11 of the Toxic Avenger for the contest.
Tom Sullivan has a museum room at Cinema Wasteland which contains props used in the Evil Dead films. He opened up his cases for me to take photos and even signed a copy of the Evil Dead for our contest. We talked a little about Evil Dead 4, My Name is Bruce, and my digital camera. He also told me that he is working on a haunted attraction somewhere in Michigan, and is also planning to direct a movie.
Adrienne King was extremely nice. We talked about the website, and the fact that she is an artist. She signed a copy of Friday the 13th for the contest and gave me a limited edition poster that she designed.
Betsy Palmer too was very nice. She signed a copy of Friday the 13th for the contest and was telling me what a long and great weekend it was.
The celebrities all seemed grateful of the fans, and willing to talk to everyone. It’s not always that way… let’s just say that Gunnar Hansen (aka Leatherface) wasn’t the greatest guy to be around.
The dealers are usually pretty awesome too. There are so many great horror t-shirts and other memorabilia (I didn’t have enough money for any…) but I like the unique dealers.
I got a chance to talk to Pinkerton FX and take a few photos of his work. He does sculptures, dolls, model kits and more. The booth itself was cool looking too.

That’s really about it. The convention comes back to Strongsville in April, I would suggest you go check it out.
Here are some photographs from inside of Tom Sullivan’s Museum.
