CKY is one of my favorite bands out there, and I got a chance to interview lead singer, Deron Miller. He is also involved in a death metal band called World Under Blood. A while back, CKY had some rough times and kind of split up leaving the fans worried about the future of the band. They are back together and in the studio recording for the new album now. Check out the interview for more info about World Under Blood, Deron’s Horror movie, and CKY’s new album.
I am always impressed when an artist has such a diverse range in the sound of their music. World Under Blood is a fast paced Metal thrash-a-thon, who are some of your influences in the metal world?
Anything I’ve ever heard has been an influence in some way, either on how to do things or how not to. Over the years I think I just took bits and pieces of the best of it all and came up with my own thing.
I read that you’d like to get on the road with World Under Blood at some point, is there any prediction on when this will happen?
No. Sometimes I get a little bummed that I can only be one place at a time, doing one thing at a time. I try to make all my plans a reality and sometimes it’s hard to say when a specific event will happen. Plus, with World Under Blood you have 3 other guys with conflicting schedules and it’s tough to get us all on the same page. But it will definitely happen. It pretty much has to.

Do you have any prospective labels that are willing to put out the World Under Blood CD? When do you think a realistic date would be for the album to drop?
Realistically the album will be done by the end of ’08 but whether or not it will come out in ’08 is the label’s choice. We do have a label but I’d rather they make the announcement. Many people know already anyway. I had to get the ok from Roadrunner to proceed because of
CKY and they passed on us, so I’m free to sign as I wish.
Where did you get the idea from the name of the band?
I honestly don’t remember. I guess wanting a cool band name really bad, my brain just went there. I think it’s great, it’s hard to come up with them.
I know that you are a huge horror fan, as am I. You stated that you were working on a movie script with a friend and sending it out to Lionsgate, is this a horror film? And is there anything you can reveal about it to us?
The first 45 minutes is a black comedy and the next 45 is a gruesome slasher. It’s somewhat of a morality tale. It’s my most frequent daydream brought to life. It’s relentless.
What are some of your favorite horror films, and how do you feel about the way the genre is heading?
My favorite horror films are old news, I mean you can google that information.
(He likes Sleepaway Camp 1-3, Halloween, Friday the 13th) I thought the strangers was excellent. I’d like to see it go more in that direction; away from the scream teenager thing to the real people no motive thing. I’ve been waiting for that.
I am real excited about the new CKY album in the works. You stated that you think this could possibly be the best CKY album yet. What is going to set it apart from the others?
I don’t think the key to the best
CKY album is to set it apart from the others. I think it fits with the others nicely, and it’s a further expansion and improvement of what we do.
How far into the album are you?
Not far enough.
Getting to see you guys in the CKY films and getting to know what you are like makes it seem like we know you on a more personal level than most artists. Does is seem like more fans come up to you treating you like a friend than one of their favorite singers?
Sure, and I really like that.
When not working on music or film projects, what do you like to do in your spare time?
Watch movies, collect vinyl, swim, bowl, and spend time with my family. I find the simple everyday things in life are far superior than the activities people wait for the weekend to do.
I would like to thank Deron Miller for taking the time out of his busy schedule to answer my questions. Here are some links:
