While the last few weeks have been filled with no direction or motivation what so ever, I’ve felt like an empty soul lost at sea. Until I got the chance to check out this awesome fashion spread in this month’s GQ from photographer Carter Smith featuring actor Scott Speedman suiting up in some rugged outdoor wear preparing for a manly, and stylish autumnal season by the sea shore. The feature is titled Maine Man, and places Speedman in the life I’ve always wanted to live.
At first I thought the image of Dennis Quad guzzling a 40 while sucking down some crawdads in last month’s Relax in Style was an image of the perfect life that all men should be shooting for. Complete with argyle sweater. Boy, was I wrong. Speedman instead tells the tale of a dangerous, yet rewarding life as a lobster wrangler in Maine, where his soft, poetic side can flourish in a log cabin surrounded by the New England woodlands safely typing away his latest novel on an antique typewriter. Better yet, the log cabin is apparently surrounded by a lake, which requires a canoe to reach. This perfect Deadliest Catch meets Walt Whitman lifestyle is complete with a well groomed beard. My lifelong aspiration.
Great job GQ. Thank you for reminding me what its all been for, and what the goal is at the end of the road.
