David Grohl Alley Dedication

Written by Tom / Posted in: ,

On Saturday, August 1st, Dave Grohl was given a hero’s welcome by rock fans of all ages when he arrived in Warren, Ohio for the dedication of David Grohl Alley at the Music is Art Festival. The drummer for Nirvana/singer and guitarist for the Foo Fighters (he also has worked with other bands and solo artists such as: Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, Paul McCartney, David Bowie, Nine Inch Nails, Queens of the Stone Age and Tenacious D) was born in Warren, Ohio and moved away when he was a young child. He told those in attendance at Courthouse Square that he often came back to Trumbull County (where Warren is) on vacation when he was young.

His father and stepmother still live there. In fact, Grohl had his entire family in attendance for the dedication. After he received the key to the city from Doug Franklin, city director of public safety, he took the time to introduce them to the audience, who applauded them emphatically. He thanked the community and the local musicians that came multiple times and said that this honor was one of the coolest things ever.

Grohl actually took the time to play drums with local act Love Turns Hate. Here is that video. I wish I could say it was me up on that stage filming, but nope, it was someone else…maybe next time.

As was reported on Horse Eats Town last week, David Grohl Alley is decorated with graffiti, musical notes and artists depictions of Dave Grohl’s career with his various musical projects. Even if you’re just a casual music fan that has no interest in Dave Grohl or his musical projects, it’s something random and fun to go and check out.

Here is video of the songs that he performed acoustically:

Special recognition needs to be given to everyone that actually made this happen: Warren Police Chief Joe O’Grady, everyone at CD 93.3 The Wolf, all of the bands that showed up throughout the week, the wonderful artists that decorated David Grohl Alley and Jennifer Campbell (chairperson of the Music is Art Festival).

Dave Grohl definitely deserves this honor. He may not have lived in Warren, Ohio for his entire life, but he represents the area with his hard work and dedication to his craft and the fans. At his concert last year in Cleveland, Ohio he actually brought up the area to some cheers and talked about boxing champion Kelly Pavlik. He talked about how he was proud to be from around here. He didn’t have to come to this event at all. He could have laughed it off and said “Screw it, I’m too big for that small city” but no, he showed up. I don’t know about everyone else, but I think he’s one of the coolest guys in rock.

  1. You got some sweet footage there. I wish I could have been there to see it first hand.
