On Wednesday I had big plans. Some friends and myself were going to head out to Presque Isle in PA and hang out on the beach. Spend a little time relaxing and swimming, possibly some picnicking. Ohio’s bitter enemy, Mother Nature, had different plans. It was doom and gloom all day long, and the rain would not let up. In order to utilize the rest of the day without me just coming home and wasting it on the computer, we decided to go get cultured at the Cleveland Museum of Art.
It was my first time there, and I was really pretty impressed with it. I had previously only been to the Chicago Museum of Art and The Butler in Youngstown, Ohio. Cleveland had a lot of familiar paintings that I had studied at YSU throughout all of my art history courses.
I took a Baroque and Rococo course in school, and there were a lot of pieces from that time period that I recall from class.
There was a lot of pretty famous Modern and Contemporary art too, that unfortunately we were not allowed to photograph. There were pieces by Andy Warhol, Willem DeKooning, Robert Rauschenberg, Jasper Johns, Lee Krasner, Cy Twobly and more. There was also a Picasso room in which we were not permitted to take pictures.
The museum is growing, and they are adding a new wing to it along with some more additions. I highly recommend you check it out if you are interested in that kind of stuff, it’s always free to get in, and they have some pretty easily accessible hours.
Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays – 10AM – 5PM
Wednesdays, Fridays – 10AM-9PM
