Underworld: Rise of the Lycans Review

Written by Tom / Posted in: ,

If anyone has seen the previous "Underworld" films, they know that both "Underworld" and "Underworld: Evolution" follow the exploits of an unlikely team of a vampire and a vampire/werewolf hybrid that fight vampires and werewolves in conspiracies that are seemingly endless. In both of those films a bit more of the premise for the prequel to these films, "Underworld: Rise of the Lycans" is explored.

The head vampire king, Viktor, is portrayed again by Bill Nighy and Michael Sheen, the actor that played Lucian in the other "Underworld" films returns to form here. The casting people made one small change when they were deciding who was going to play Viktor's daughter, Sonja. They got an actress named Rhona Mitra and she filled in perfectly for Jazmin Damak, who played Sonja in the first "Underworld".

This film explores the story that was left wide-open by the "Underworld" movies. It really explains why Viktor didn't kill Lucian upon finding him and how deep his trust with him ran until he was betrayed by both Lucian and his daughter's affair. I was really wondering what else I could learn walking into the theater to see this movie and I walked out pretty impressed. If you like the other movies go see it. The acting, makeup and visual effects are top notch.
